SHEPPEY SUPER LEAGUE

Last week Sheppey were at home to Eltham and as they were moving up the table with a chance of winning or getting runners up in the league Sheppey needed a good win.

First to play was Geoff Harkup who got us off to a great start winning 3-2 with 13 tons and a 24.42 single dart average.  Next to play was Ryan Hope who once again was on good form, Hope won 3-0 with 8 tons and a 23.86 average but in his first leg he had a chance of checking out in eleven darts hitting 100,180,180,9,2 to finish the leg in 14 darts.

Next to toe the oche was Pat Scurfield who although not playing at his best managed a 3-0 win with a 20.88 average and 3 tons.  Simon Lissenden hit form again this week winning 3-1 with a creditable 24.55 average and 10 tons.  It was going well for Sheppey and we needed to keep this form up if we were to climb higher in the league table.  Lionel Watson was our fifth payer and we needed this for the match and although his form was a little off he managed a 3-1 win with21.50 average and 6 tons.  The match was won but we still needed the other games as they all count points.

Rob Smillie played next but lost one of his few games of the season 1-3 with6 tons, disappointing but not a disaster.  Mark Legg is probably one of the most improved players this season and he did not disappoint winning 3-0 with a 23.86 average and 9 tons, this was followed by Chris Collins who played on of his best games of the season winning 3-1 with 8 tons and a 23.85 average.

Due to Eltham only having eight players Charlie Day had a walkover and got the win plus he will get his average score from the season.

A great win for Sheppey 8-1 with a total of 63 tons and a team average of 20.38, Simon Lissenden was awarded man of the match with a 24.55 average and he also had the highest check on 64.

The Sheppey Classic entries are slow coming in so get yours in now!  We also need more sponsors and advertisors so if any firm is interested please telephone Tony Cox on 01795 875263.

This week on Thursday evening we have presentation night at Minster Club with pro player Colin Monks attending, Colin is also bringing his son Aaron who is steadily climbing the ranking table.  We also have the Open Singles final between Mark Legg from the Aviator and Pat Scurfield from the Red Lion.

25th March 2010

This week Sheppey played their old adversary’s Sittingbourne, it is always a close game capable of going either way.

Rob Smillie was the first to play and after struggling with his checkouts he did manage a 3-1 win with a19.83 average and seven tons.  Next to play was Ryan Hope who has been the most consistent player so far this season and he did not disappoint, with his brilliant average last week of 29.47 he continued winning 3-0 this week with a 24.64 average and seven tons.  Next to toe the oche was Mark Legg who also has had a good season and also making his mark on the competition circuit, Legg won 3-0 with a 26.37 average and eight tons.

Sheppey were playing well and getting more confident as the games progressed with the first three games under their belt could it continue.  Ricky O’Brien was next to play and took the first two legs easily but struggled with the next two but he found form again in the last winning 3-2 with 22.15 average and eight tons.  Sheppey now needed just one game for the match and we were very confident with on form Lionel Watson playing next but Watson was just not on form and struggled.  He did manage a win 3-2 with five tons and a 20.13 average, well below his normal form but it was a win and meant Sheppey had won the match even with another four games to play.

Charlie Day has been up and down this season and unfortunately this was a down week, Day lost 1-3 with 4 tons and only a 17.73 average.  This was followed by Lee Townsend also having problems; Townsend lost 0-3 with only two tons and a 17.36 average.  Pat Scurfield played Sittingbourns Pete Mitchell, with both players being on form it looked to be a great game and we were not disappointed.  Scurfield lost 0-3 with a creditable 23.65 average and 3 tons against Mitchels 27.83 average and ten tons. Last to play was Chris Collins who also lost 1-3 with four tons and a 21.79 average.

The order of play draw went Sheppey’s way and the match was won 5-4 with a team average of 21.48 and a total of 48 tons.  Mark leg got man of the match with a 26.37 average he also hit two maximum 180s; Ricky O’Brien took the highest check on 101.

A great night for Sheppey.

SUPER LEAGUE REPORT

Sheppey v Tovil

Last week Sheppey played Tovil and were looking forward o a good win as Tovil are at the bottom of the table and Sheppey at the top, Sheppey also beat Tovil 6-3 at their home venue.

First to play was Geoff Harkup who played Dave Whitcombe.  Although it was a great game Whitcombe got his revenge for a beating he took from Harkup at their last meeting.  Harkup lost 1-3 with 7 tons and an average of 23.26 against Whitcombes 23.39, a very exciting and close game.

Next to play was Richard Hope who lost 0-3 in a game where Hope could not get going and lost 0-3 with only 1 ton and a disappointing 19.85 average.  Our third player was Ryan Hope and he has been well on form this season so we wanted a win to start us off.  Ryan lost 1-3 with an average of 21.84 and 7 tons.  Ricky O’Brien played next and with his usual form returning after a few slow weeks he won 0-3 with a great 24.24 average and 6 tons.  Although Lee Townsend played well in the next game he also lost1-3 with 6 tons and a 22.15 average.

It was now not looking good for Sheppey as they were 1-4 down in the match and with Tovil only needing one more game to take the match Sheppey needed to come back strong.  This was not to be and disappointingly Lionel Watson could not find form, missing his doubles Watson lost 0-3 with only 3 tons and a 20.41 average.  The match now lost Sheppey just needed to win a few games to get a bit of pride back in the side.

Pat Scurfield won his game 2-3 in fine style with a 22.46 average and 9 tons and this was followed by Rob Smillie who won 0-3 with 7 tons and a 23.48 average.  Things were looking a little better but Mark Legg missed doubles to lose 0-3 with only an 18.71 average and 6 tons.

A disappointing night for Sheppey, with a team average of 21.82 and a total of 52 tons it has now dropped them down to second place in the division.  Harkup had the highest check on 100 and O’Brien got man of the match with his average of 24.24.
